"We know what we are, but know only not what we may be." - William Shakespeare, "Hamlet: Act 4 Scene 5"

When you have had one or too many near-death experience(s); or a heartbreak predicted to happen (talk about mediocrity!), nothing surprises you. There may be a few unexpected events, but, for the most part, you have begun to understand life's natural rhythm. It's a smooth, regular beat; like the surf crashing down upon the sandy shore, or the echoing boom of a constant drumbeat. Intertwined into this rhythm are happiness and sadness, good and bad luck altogether, wealth and poverty. It's the way things are meant to be, the rules of the world, and almost everything abides by them.

This rhythm is the heartbeat of the earth, ticking past the years and memories of my summer. And for that, I can easily list out ten reasons why I effin hate you now. Or more.
